One Small Step

Welcome, 2023! The new year is in full swing.

Projects that went into hibernation in December are springing to life in January.

As a matter of principle, I don’t believe in making resolutions, but I made some anyway. Now I have to decide which, if any, I will keep and which were only wishful thinking.

If you made a promise to yourself this year, take a deep breath. Go slow. Build the big picture in small increments.

If you’ve decided that this is the year to take charge of your professional life, you’ll need a personal brand that puts you firmly on the radar for new opportunities. I know. It’s daunting. You’re stymied by the process. And so you resolve to do it later. Next year.

When big things seem overwhelming, I begin by sticking my toe in the water slowly, Small steps, one at a time.

Deciding that a personal brand is a must-have is the biggest decision of all.

“The seed of every habit is a single, tiny decision,” according to James Clear, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Atomic Habits and the popular 3-2-1 newsletter. “Ultimately, “it’s your commitment to the process that will determine your progress.”

Do it in chunks. Work in smaller bits. Go at a pace you can handle.

Decide that 2023 will be the year you create your personal brand. Make this resolution one you’ll be proud of.
